Most visitors to Providenciales follow the same well-worn path: Grace Bay Beach in the morning, a restaurant at lunch, perhaps a cocktail at one of the beachside bars as the sun goes down. It is a beautiful path. But it is only the surface of what these islands have to offer.

Grace Bay — From a Different Angle
Seeing Grace Bay from the deck of a private yacht is an entirely different experience to seeing it from the shore. The perspective shifts. The crowd disappears behind you. You begin to appreciate the sheer scale of the reef system that protects it, the clarity of the water above it, and the reason this beach has been voted the world’s best so many times.
Many guests choose to anchor just offshore for a swim or a snorkel before moving on to more remote destinations. The reef at Smith’s Reef and Bight Reef, both easily accessible from Grace Bay, host turtle, eagle ray and an extraordinary variety of reef fish.
Fort George Cay
Fort George Cay is one of those places that simply stops you. A narrow sliver of white sand, surrounded on all sides by water so shallow it glows from beneath — pale turquoise over bleached sand, passing through aquamarine and into the deep blue of the channel beyond.
The ruins of a British fortification from the 18th century still stand here, giving the island an unexpected historical weight. Come at low tide and the sandbar stretches to its full, extraordinary extent.
Little Water Cay — Iguana Island
A short run from Providenciales, Little Water Cay is home to the endemic Turks and Caicos Rock Iguana — a species that exists nowhere else on earth. These prehistoric-looking creatures are entirely habituated to visitors and will approach with a confidence that is both charming and slightly unnerving.
Guided nature walks are available on the island, and it pairs perfectly with a stop at the adjacent Half Moon Bay for a swim in the crystal shallows.
Half Moon Bay
Half Moon Bay is the kind of place you see in photographs and assume has been enhanced. It has not. The water genuinely is that colour. The sand genuinely is that soft. And because it sits between Water Cay and Little Water Cay, it is accessible only by boat — which means that on a weekday morning, it is quite possible to have it almost entirely to yourself.
Pine Cay
Pine Cay is a private island that strikes a rare balance between exclusivity and natural beauty. Its beaches are among the finest in the archipelago, and its reef is exceptional — calm, colourful, and alive with life. A visit here by yacht, dropping anchor and swimming ashore, is one of those experiences that defies easy description.
West Caicos
For those who want to experience world-class diving and snorkelling from a private yacht, West Caicos is the destination. The island is uninhabited, its beaches are pristine, and the waters off its western shore host one of the most dramatic reef walls in the Caribbean — a vertical drop from the shallows into the deep Atlantic, covered in hard and soft coral and patrolled by shark, grouper and tuna.
A full-day charter is recommended for West Caicos, given the travel time from Providenciales. It is worth every minute.
French Cay
French Cay sits south of Providenciales and is best known among divers, but it rewards the snorkeller equally. The waters here are dense with marine life — rays, turtles, nurse shark and an array of reef species — and the island itself hosts nesting seabirds that make for extraordinary wildlife watching.
Chalk Sound
Chalk Sound National Park is unlike anywhere else in the Turks and Caicos. A protected lagoon dotted with tiny rocky islets, its water an almost fluorescent turquoise over a white sand bottom — it is the kind of place that photographers return to again and again, always leaving with something new.
It is best approached from the water, drifting slowly through the islets as the light shifts across the surface. Kayaks and paddleboards are the ideal way to explore from a moored yacht.
